The CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management (Release 2) would suit people who aim to be managers within a range of community sector organisations across Australia. You might find yourself in a role working independently, or reporting to executive management; in job types where you will provide guidance and support to workers in this profession who seek to improve the lives of their clients. You might work independently or report to boards, and undertake a range of tasks to assist people in living fulfilling lives. This course will give you a well-rounded foundation for progressing in the community services industry.

You might plan and monitor service delivery, recruitment and performance management of other paid or unpaid workers, while also managing risk. You might look after a specific program or project, or deal with broader management of a community-based organisation, early childhood education service, not-for-profit organisation or community centre. You could undertake a range of tasks where you use your community sector management skills to achieve results for your clients in line with the organisation's goals and strategic directions.

The standard course is conducted over a 18 month period; within a self-paced online learning environment. 

Upskilled will gather information about your previous experience and skills, weekly study commitment and online learning experience to provide you with an projected duration for your course based on your individual circumstance.

Recognition of Prior Learning / Credit Transfer
Work experience or formal qualifications you have may count towards your course. If you have previously undertaken study at a recognised institution or have some relevant work experience, you might gain credit towards specific units in a course; shortening the time you have to study. You can send your application for Credit Transfer or RPL during the enrolment process.
Assessment
Upskilled takes evidence gathered from a variety of sources to deem a student as competent. Assessment processes might include some or all of the following:
  • Recognition of Prior Learning and/or credit transfer
  • summative and formative assignments
  • written reports and/or portfolio assessments
  • scenarios and/or case studies
  • projects
  • written/oral questions
  • regular training and assessment contact will be maintained by Upskilled in conjunction with the participant and their employer (where applicable). Critical dates during the program will be identified for participants to ensure compliance to assessment due dates, and attendance at monthly webinars as required.

Lead and manage organisational change

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to determine strategic change requirements and opportunities; and to develop, implement and evaluate change management strategies. It applies to managers with responsibilities that extend across the organisation or across significant parts of a large organisation. They may have a dedicated role in human resources management, human resources development, or work in a strategic policy or planning area. The unit takes a structured approach to change management and applies to people with considerable work experience and organisational knowledge.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake supervisory and coordinating activities in work groups in health and community service organisations. Workers at this level are team leaders or managers responsible for coordinating and monitoring the activities and performance of work teams and other service providers. This unit applies to a range of leadership roles in health and community services workplaces.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, implement and monitor a framework for ongoing quality service delivery that supports the rights and interests of clients. The unit applies to a range of leadership roles in health and community services workplaces.

Manage legal and ethical compliance

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to research information about compliance and ethical practice responsibilities, and then develop and monitor policies and procedures to meet those responsibilities. This unit applies to people working in roles with managerial responsibility for legal and ethical compliance in small to medium sized organisations. There may or may not be a team of workers involved.

This may apply to internal work practices or external service delivery. This unit applies to individuals working in any type of leadership role across all industry sectors.

This unit describes skills and knowledge required to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting. It applies to individuals who are working in positions of authority and are approved to implement change across the organisation, business unit, program or project area. They may or may not have responsibility for directly supervising others.

Manage finances

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake budgeting, financial forecasting and reporting and to allocate and manage resources to achieve the required outputs for the business unit. It includes contributing to financial bids and estimates, allocating funds, managing budgets and reporting on financial activity. It applies to individuals who have managerial responsibilities which include overseeing the management of financial and other resources across a business unit, a series of business units or teams, or an organisation. It covers all areas of broad financial management. In a larger organisation this work would be supported by specialists in financial management.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to sustain and develop an environment in which continuous improvement, innovation and learning are promoted and rewarded. It applies to people with managerial responsibilities who aim to build a better and more effective work environment. Continuous improvement and innovation have links with the model of the learning organisation and people working at this level play an important role in building the culture, values and attitudes of the organisation.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish and monitor formal agreements and partnerships with specialist support providers to meet client needs. This unit applies to a range of leadership roles in health and community services workplaces. The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge to take a leadership role in the delivery of quality case management. This includes disseminating information and providing advice on practice issues relating to case management within the organisation. Workers at this level work autonomously and are responsible for own outputs within broad but defined organisation guidelines. This unit applies to work in a range of health and community services contexts.

Develop and Manage Performance Management Processes

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design, implement and oversee performance-management processes. The unit also includes specific intervention associated with under-performance or misconduct and developing approaches to address skill and performance gaps.

Provide leadership across the organisation

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to demonstrate senior leadership behaviour and personal and professional competence. Business ethics are also addressed in this unit. It applies to individuals who have a role in inspiring and motivating others to achieve organisational goals and to model professionalism in their organisation and industry. Leadership is seen in the context of the organisational mission. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to effectively resolve grievances and complaints about the service. The unit applies to educators who work with children in a variety of education and care services.
